This design is inspired by the first Holden Dealer Team developed race car, the GM Holden HT 350 Monaro HT/13681/M. Chevrolet had sent over a number of 350 engines to enable competitive racing against the Ford 351 Falcon's.

While this car crashed at Sandown just a month prior to the Bathurst race, due to road brakes having swapped incorrectly for race brake pads which caused them to overheat. This did allow the Holden Dealer Team to make engine and other modifications which subsequently saw them win their first Bathurst. That race saw a crash on the first lap that took out or damaged over a third of the race field.

This first HDT car sold in November 2017 at auction for approx $500,000 AUD.

You'll see in the last photo that the brakes were clearly starting be trouble.
