This was the first Bathurst win for the newly established Holden Dealer Team and they also came home in third place. Second place interestingly went to last years Holden winner Bruce McPhee who had across moved to Ford when he received no help from Holden.

Bathurst 1969 introduced two new drivers to the great race who would both go on to dominate this event over the next two decades: Peter Brock and Allan Moffat.

The new Ford GTHO was favoured to win this race, however a decision to import special race tyres cost Ford dearly as their works cars suffered tyre failures and Moffat to this day believes he would have won the race if he wasn't called into the pits for a tyre check that wasn't needed. He didn't have to wait long as he won the 1970 race.

Colin Bond continued racing at Bathurst up until 1984, and rated his 1969 win as his most memorable drive as it really helped to launch his career.
