The Mazda 787B is the first rotary engined car to win at Le Mans, driven by Weidler, Herbert and Gachot in the 1991 race.
While up against more powerful cars, Mazda were convinced that their greater reliability and better fuel efficiency could given them the advantage - so the drivers were briefed to race like it was a short sprint event rather than a long endurance race.
Johnny Herbert had a memorable race, completing a record 362 laps and was so dehydrated at the end of the race he couldn't make the winners podium.
