In 1902 motor racing was banned in Great Britain, so the first Grand Prix event was held in Ireland. In honour of the hosts, shamrock green was selected as the colour of the English Napier team.

In time this darkened to become British Racing Green, first made famous by Sunbeam and Bentley. Most British teams have used this colour scheme, such as Jaguar, Rover, Lotus and MG.

This design has been inspired by the Bentley Blower, a supercharged version of the 4.5 litre engine which achieved much success at Le Mans.
