Alpine was first named by Jean Redele during one rally event in his Renault 4CV, as he enjoyed himself so much when racing across the Alpines. The company came later in 1955 buoyed by the success of his Renault A106 'Speciale' cars that came first and second in the Mille Miglia.

Many race victories followed after those years, across Le Mans and of course rallying, and the company has left many admirers with the Alpine A110.

Alpine actually created the prototype F1 car for Renault, before their first entry in 1977.

Despite production success of the A110 the company was acquired by Renault in 1973 which saw the striking Alpine GTA being created, before winding down in the mid 1990's. In 2018 Alpine has been reborn and hopefully we will see motorsport variants once again under this name.
