Bruce McLaren was a New Zealand race-car designer, driver, engineer and inventor. We he created the McLaren Racing Team it was the golden age of NZ motorsport with other drivers being Chris Amon, Denny Hulme and Howden Ganley, not to mention Ivan Mauger, the six time world champion in motorcycle speedway.

McLaren Racing won their first grand prix at Belgium in 1968 with Bruce McLaren at the wheel. McLaren were successful across Formula One, the Indy 500 and were dominant in Can Am where they won the most races in this series and won the championship five years in a row.

While known for their papaya livery, the first McLaren that raced in Formula One was painted white and green, as part of a deal for the film ‘Grand Prix’.
