Tranzam is an Australian - New Zealand adaption of TransAm, and the 1970's saw large crowds attracted to this racing with these two cars being the main stars.

The PDL Mustang (later known as the 1 when the PDL Mustang II came into existence) saw different liveries across its long race period, raced from 1971 through to 1977. Originally built as a Boss 429 car, it soon came to look nothing like stock with extended fibreglass wheel arches, the engine moved rearward and latterly changed to an alloy block. It is considered the most famous race car in NZ.

The Sidchrome Mustang was one of three cars that Sidchrome sponsored with their distinctive bright design. Originally a Boss 302 car, it received a 351C engine, four webbers, fibreglass panels and front brakes from a 1966 Thunderbird. It won the 1973/4 race series with Jim Richards driving, prompting a move to Australia where they won against the Allan Moffat Mustang.
