While New Zealand has produced many top motorsport drivers like McLaren, Amon and Dixon, Denny Hulme is the only F1 World Champion from that nation.

His F1 championship came in the 1967 season driving for Brabham, in only his second F1 season. Further F1 titles eluded him after a switch to McLaren where he finished third in 1968 and 1972.

While The Ford v Ferrari film focused on Ken Miles, Denny Hulme was his co-driver in that fateful 1966 race where McLaren/Amon were judged winners in the staged GT40 finish.

He was a successful driver in Can Am, Touring Cars and at Bathurst, where he sadly died of a heart attack while on the high speed conrod straight during the 1992 race.
