BRM (British Racing Motors) and Ferrari are the only two companies who have won the Formula One championship with a car they have built entirely themselves (engine, chassis and gearbox).

Peter Gethin's 1971 Italian Grand Prix victory at Monza was the fastest Grand Prix of the 20th Century at an average speed of 151mph .

Six World Champions drove for BRM: Juan Manuel Fangio, Mike Hawthorn, Graham Hill, Jackie Stewart, John Surtees and Niki Lauda.

Graham Hill won their World Championship in 1962 with the P57 car with notable wins at the Nurburgring, Monaco and Monza and became the first British world champion driving a British car. When Owen Racing Corporation took control of BRM they introduced the orange ring livery.

BRM pulled put of Formula One in 1977 after failing over a number of races to be fast enough to qualify, and Australian Supercar fans may be interested to know that Larry Perkins was one of their drivers at that time.
