Cooper Formula One cars were revolutionary when first introduced, as they were smaller, aerodynamic and were the first Formula One cars to have their engine mounted at the rear, which allowed for a lower profile. The smaller and lighter engine also saw many races without the need for a pit stop.
Cooper Car Company produced many race cars and moved into rally cars with the creation of the Mini Cooper.
Coventry Climax was a specialty engine maker and provided these to Cooper, Lotus, TVR, Brabham and they were the engine maker for mass production Hillman Imp.
Many famous drivers raced in either Cooper Cars or cars powered by Climax, including Moss, Surtees, Clark, Brabham and McLaren.
