Corvette's proud history of racing at Le Mans first started back in 1960.
For that race, the long established racing driver Briggs Cunningham brought over to France three Corvettes. Car #3 won its class on its debut. Car #1 had less success with driver Jim Kimberly rolling it during the race, with Car #2 pictured in this design having blown its engine late in the race.
Briggs Cunningham was no stranger at Le Mans having raced there before including with two Cadillac's one of which was nicknamed 'Le Monstre' by the French.
Interestingly he developed launched his own brand of cars using the designation C1, C2 and C3 etc long before Corvettes did. He has a corner named after him at the Sebring raceway.
