John Goss and Kevin Bartlett entered their XA 351 GT Falcon in the 1973 race but were caught up in a crash that finished their race. Returning in 1974, they won in the wettest Bathurst yet, and benefited from the sportsmanship of Allan Moffat who loaned wet tyres to them after they suffered tyre damage.

Ford had earlier come under huge pressure following a news media initiated 'super car scare' which saw them end planned production of the XA Falcon GT-HO Phase IV.

Ford celebrated this victory with a production run of XB Falcon 'John Goss Special' cars.
