The PDL Mustang II caused a sensation when it surfaced on the race track in New Zealand, built by the PDL Racing Team to the specifications of Charlie Kemp IMSA Mustang.

It proved to be far quicker than any of the opposition which ultimately resulted in the rules being changed to prevent it from racing.

PDL Racing was a successful Christchurch based team running initially Falcon's and then the famous PDL Mustang 1, known subsequently as 'Electric Blue'. The news that space-frame Chev Monza's were going to compete in the 1976/77 series saw PDL move building this Mustang 2 from scratch.

Leo Leonard was the main driver of this car and in the 1979 Open Saloon Car Series it featured a large aerofoil on its rear.

This design is based on the livery and markings it made its debut with, before the Stewart business 'Torro Toys' became a sponsor.
