This T-shirt design is inspired by the Petty / STP colour scheme since their 1972 agreement.
In 1971 Petty became the first driver to win three consecutive championships, and he was running the iconic new Plymouth Road Runner.
With Chrysler then withdrawing from motorsports, there was real concern over future races for Petty Enterprises. STP stepped in, but required for the cars to be painted in their special orange colour, which would have been a big departure from the familiar blue that Richard had traditionally raced in.
A walkout from Richard led to new negotiations that saw a new blue/orange livery emerge. Over time this become so recognised that STP adopted it as their new motorsport colours.
