When the 72 model first appeared it caused a sensation as it was the first F1 car to have moved the radiators to side pods and not in the front of the car, allowing for low drag and a wedge shape. the Lotus 72 model won the world championship three times and competed for six F1 seasons, arguably the most successful F1 car design ever.
