David Pearson was second only to Richard Petty in terms of all time Nascar wins, and what is remarkable is that he never completed a full race season during his career, and from 1970 only participated on a part time basis.

Much of his career is linked to Petty and their friendly rivalry which grew the popularity of Nascar. Between them they ran 63 first / second place race results. The 1976 Daytona 500 saw a close race between them and they crashed at the final turn just 30 meters short of the finish line. Petty was unable to restart his car and Pearson crawled over the line for his only Daytona 500 win.

David Pearson won the Nascar championship in 1966 with the Owens Racing Dodge and 1968 and 1969 in the Holman Moody Ford Torino, the colors used as the design for this shirt.

Born and raised in South Carolina, David was inducted into the Nascar Hall of Fame in 2011.
