Norm Beechey's 1970 Holden HY Monaro GTS 350 has been described as Australia's most important racing car.

It is an imposter here as while it ran and won at Bathurst, this was an ATCC (Australian Touring Car Championship) event and not the same as the other designs which feature participants in the Bathurst 500/1000 event.

The ATCC formula allowed for many modifications so while this Monaro looked similar to what could be purchased from dealers, it was very different underneath. In order to compete with the 'Trans Am' cars like Mustangs and Camaros, Norm's car had to have the engine mounted further back and lower, to obtain a similar centre of gravity.

Norm Beechey won the ATCC championship in 1970 with this car, becoming the first Australian made car to win this event. As a way of poking fun to the other entrants using American sourced cars, Norm had the words 'Trans-Aus' painted on the rear of his car.

Norm retired from racing at the end of the 1972 season.
